zeegoeshere: (and my health is a joke)

The one thing that the recent pairing debacle made me realize is that, man, there should just be a ban on calling any inter-band pairing unconventional/weird/unlikely/etc. The nature of bandom means that if you pick *any* two dudes in a band together, there's more canon subtext to support a pairing there than there has been to support major slash OTPs in big media fandoms, if only because of the fact that these guys live in each other's laps for huge portions of the year.

There is so much canon out there! SO MUCH CANON. Frank/Bob and Gerard/Bob and Gerard/Ray and Frank/Mikey and Ray/Mikey all have plenty of canon support--in any other fandom, none of these would be considered unlikely or weird or whatever just because they don't make out onstage. Ditto with Patrick/Joe, Pete/Joe, Patrick/Andy, Joe/Andy; Brendon/Spencer, Spencer/Ryan, Jon/Ryan, Brendon/Jon. Take any two guys in any two bands and there's very little work that you, the slasher, have to do to conceive of them going from Point A to Point Fucking. You have to get into band crossovers to find pairings that are wacky or unlikely or whatever. (And please do, because the only Gerard/Brendon I know of still exists only in my head, and that is so saddening.)

In other news, it's November. November is gray and cold and I think I just have to come to terms with the fact that I'm going to be sneezing and coughing until, oh, April. Plenty of people on my friendslist seem to be having pretty gloomy Novembers, so hey. A mix tape of music to help you remember that it won't be gray forever.

If you haven't seen Into The Wild, you should. I think it's kind of difficult to make art that stresses the importance of getting out into nature without being preachy, distant, or cliche'd; sometimes I have a hard time expressing why I believe it's so important not to cut yourself off from the natural world to people who don't do the outdoors thing, and I kind of feel like this movie did it for me. Plus it has an awesome soundtrack and there's a lot of nudity, so.
