I was talking to
petronelle about how I'd enjoy the current Supergirl so much more if she were written more like Anya. I mean--she's an alien. She most definitely did *not* grow up human, and really, there's no reason for her to know *anything* about interacting with humans or human culture. She should have no tact and state things very obviously and just get confused when Superman tells her that she can't do things like walk around naked, or whatever.
(Note: possibly this theory is entirely jossed by canon saying that she learned about Earth in her spaceship, or whatever. Which, well. That's dumb, and I like my version better, so nyah.)
Along those lines--uh. I wrote a thing. For
monkeycrackmary, because she's shiny and stuff.

Kara finds her in Paris, which is the first thing that strikes her as odd. She's not certain, but she thinks Kal mentioned something about Batman and his Robins staying in Gotham. She *thinks* that's why she shouldn't visit Gotham, although the reason could also be Ivy. Or maybe it's both. It's all kind of fuzzy in her head.
The second thing that strikes her as odd is that the Robin isn't dead. No, that's not what's odd--what's odd is that she *should* be dead, but isn't. The third thing is that the Robin is grinning and waving at her. Robins don't grin or wave at her--well, Nightwing does, but as Kal explained, he isn't a Robin anymore.
Kara flies closer, and thinks of what Kal would do. She folds her arms over her chest and straightens her back, hovering. "What are you doing here?"
"I have *no* idea. Then again, I could ask the same of you--Paris isn't, like, your city or anything, is it?" She frowns, and her blonde hair wips around her face. "Although I guess it might be. Batman didn't really finish briefing me on the new Supergirl before he died."
"Why aren't you dead? You should be dead." Kara realizes after opening her mouth that that wasn't what Kal would call nice, or at least tactful. Oops.
But the Robin just laughs. "Yeah, I know! Crazy, isn't it? I think it's because of that whole, you know." She waves a hand. "Reality merging thing."
Kara frowns and flies closer, because the Robin isn't a threat. She's just human. "Are you killing people?" That's why the other not-dead Robin is an enemy, Kal says. Because killing humans is wrong.
The Robin snorts. "Shyeah right. Nah, I think if Bats had to deal with more than one screwy ex-Robin being all scary and villainous he'd, like, implode or something. And that would be messy."
So she isn't an enemy. Kara lands. If she's not an enemy, then-- "You are a friend. My name is Kara Zor-el." Except--Kal says she shouldn't give that out. "I mean, Kara Kent." Except, no, that's not right, she shouldn't give *that* name out, either. She can't remember why.
The Robin's eyes widen when Kara gives her second name, but then she just laughs. "Okay, sure. My name's Steph. I guess secret identities don't matter much when you've already died, right?"
She sticks out a hand, and Kara stares at it. She doesn't remember--some kind of greeting ritual--
Oh, yes! Kara remembers and smiles, and wraps her arms around Steph, who makes an 'oof' sound--she's hugging too hard. Oops. Kara lessens the pressure, and feels Steph hug back, awkwardly.
"Heh. I never met Superman, but Batman said he was like this."
"You smell nice." The words are out of her mouth before Kara can think whether or not they're appropriate, but Steph doesn't chastize her; just laughs.
"Yeah? Well, great. I'm glad being dead hasn't made me all stinky."
Kara lets go, stands back, because she remembers that prolonged contact and intimacy is indicative of... something, among humans. Attraction, she thinks--although she is attracted to Steph, so why shouldn't she hold on? She frowns and stops thinking about it.
"There's probably something wrong with you if you're not dead. You should come back to the Fortress for me, and Kal will help us figure it out."
"Kal--? Oh, right." Steph seems to hesitate, although Kara doesn't know why; why shouldn't she trust Kal? Or does she hesitate for some other reason? "Yeah, sure. Paris is kinda boring, anyway--which is disappointing, I mean, it's *Paris!*"
Kara nods, though she doesn't understand what Steph means. She wraps her arms around Steph and flies, careful to keep her speed under the limit of what human bodies can take. She can feel Steph stiffen in her arms--surprised? Scared?--but then she relaxes, and her body is soft and still smells very nice.
edit: Upon seeing this, and being informed that that is Mr. Dick who has dyed his hair blonde to hide who he is, or something:
Zee: wow. apparently, pre-crisis bat-kids show their love by dying their hair!
Petra: yes. yes they do.
Zee: A Clarification of Range just got that much closer to canon for me now.

I APPROVE of this. MIGHTILY. Oh, girls. ♥ It's utterly adorable, and makes me feel even more like making my 'ten reasons I don't hate Kara and/or wish to pair her with Robin' post.
*makes more happy cooing sounds*

I feel bad that Kara is so hated on by fandom. It's not like I don't see the reasons, but well--I don't know. Thing. It probably has something to do with how I wouldn't like Catalina as much if fandom didn't *hate* her so much.
In conclusion, I think you should do that post. :)
