Title: Get By
Fandom: Buffy and Angel.
Music: Talib Kweli.
"Angel, I'm dying."
"Yeah. It's a lot easier than redemption, huh?"
--Faith and Angel, Orpheus.

Thanks to everyone who helped me get this thing together, especially
lierdumoa, and as always thank you
angisageek for the webspace. Also thank you to everyone who was chatting with me at the time and tolerated my random outbursts of "You know who's hot? Faith." In my defense, aspect ratios were making me somewhat delirious.
Also, I've been moving things around in the process of making a website, and so none of the old links for my other vids worked. I have updated the links now and it should all be kosher. My vids can be seen here.

Huh! Interesting, because I wasn't consciously trying to do that. What parts made you think that?
I am so thrilled that you liked it. *squeezes you*

The whole thing was great but I especially loved the juxtaposition between Faith's coma dreams and Angel's underwater hallucinations around 2:31-2:42. I also really liked the ironic little touches (like the cartoon Superman on the "TV got us reaching for stars" line and Angel jumping into the car on "penis enlargers"), they work on their own and also lend even more weight to the more serious clips. And the ending sequence, starting at around 3:02, was just perfect.
Thank you for posting!

I liked it all but I think the lyrical juxtaposition I love the most, even though I don't know the song AT ALL, was the "love is unconditional" shot with Faith breaking out of prison. It was an awesome shot in the show and it's a fantastically used shot there, and, yeah, I know nothing about vid and vid feedback but. *thumbs up*
And now? I'm gonna rewatch Orpheus, uh-huh. And then maybe track down Buffy S7, who knows.

I'm so happy you noticed the lyric stuff! I knew that because I was doing a rap song, a lot of the lyrics would go over people's heads, so it's nice to hear that some stuff did stand out. Thank you so much for this feedback.

:00-:11 - Great slow stillness in the beginning that builds a little tension.
Attack of the Clones - Nice touch of humor.
just to get by - Love the stakes coming out on beat.
We survivalists, turned to consumers - Great lyric to the clip of Angel setting the fire.
This morning, I woke up - Nice use of lyrics again.
Feeling my highs, and my lows in my soul, and my goals - I like the repeating of the clip.
1:05-1:25 - My favorite lyric section.
We keeping it gangster say "fo shizzle", "fo sheezy", and "stayin crunk" / It's easy to pull a breezy, smoke trees, and we stay drunk - Just another part I really liked what you did.
when the livin' is miserable - Love how you brought Conner into the vid.
The TV got us reachin' for stars and breast enhancements and penis enlargers - Another nice touch of humor.
When, all you really need is love - Again, I keep quoting the lyrics because I really love how you used them in relation to the source.
2:30-2:42 - Great back and forth editing.
Great clip to end with.

Yeah, I heard the DJ Ayres remix long before I ever heard the original. The remix was good, but when I bought the album and heard that version I was blown away by how powerful it was. (And whoo, someone else who's seen Dave Chappelle's Block Party. What an awesome movie.)
Thanks so much for the detailed feedback. I had doubts about the Connor parts, especially, so I'm glad they worked for people other than me.

Yeah, the remix is good, but the original has more "power" in it.
(And whoo, someone else who's seen Dave Chappelle's Block Party. What an awesome movie.)
I'm so in love with it. When I first got it, I had it playing on my tv in the background over and over again while I did other stuff.
Thanks so much for the detailed feedback. I had doubts about the Connor parts...
You're welcome. The Connor parts worked for me, I think, because he was a connection between the two and they influenced more than most.

I love the way you’ve captured the flow of the rap, dipping in and out of the lyric and every time the chorus comes round it hurts a little more. And it starts with Faith and then Angel has a verse and then Faith but gradually you intermix their stories more and more, because that’s why they can help each other they’ve been to the same places. Especially love the parallels made in the bridge between Faith’s dream grave and Angel’s watery one and that beautiful shot of her breakdown at the end.
