This story's going somewhere, by
jamjar. Pete PoV, starts from the beginning of the band.
jamjar has finally finished the fic that she's been working on almost since we both got into bandom (or, it might not be quite since then, but it feels like it!), and it's my fault that she started it in the first place and I saw every bit of it along the way and I feel sort of like the story's aunt or something now, so I won't even pretend that this is an at all objective rec.
In this story Pete is 16 and Patrick is 23 when they meet and form a band. Though this is AU, I don't think I've ever read a story that got Pete Wentz so perfect. This is absolutely my Pete, young and smart and over-confident and emotionally vulnerable and kind of a jerk. She writes him as a teenager so well that it's kind of hard to read sometimes. I am so, so impressed with what she's done here, the steps she's taken to build this universe and paint the picture of this band starting--she never takes any shortcuts and she never leaves anything out, and Joe and Andy and Patrick are as fleshed out and perfect as Pete is.
It's 42,000 words and I don't really know what else to say about it because I don't want to spoil a single thing. I just have to state again how much she nailed the character that I see in my head when I think of Pete, and I haven't read too many stories where that's really the case. Please, read, sink your teeth into it, tell
jamjar how awesome she is, because fandom doesn't get this kind of fic every day. I'm just going to link to it again, okay? Okay.
