I really lucked out and received Man Not A Monster, which is an Attack the Block vid about Moses. And it's pretty much my ideal vid for this movie. The vidder really captures the fantastic energy and motion that runs throughout the film, as well as being an excellent character study of Moses.

I am so beyond pleased with my Yuletide story. I asked for Archer, Pam/Cheryl or Archer/Lana, and I got BOTH in one story that also includes fuck-or-die, golden showers and fisting. In any other fandom, I might be slightly taken aback to get a Yuletide present with golden showers and fisting, but for Archer? It's perfect. I am amazed at how they got the characterization as well as the tone of the show so perfect--it's like watching an episode of the show.

Goldenfist, for the TV show Archer, Pam/Cheryl and Archer/Lana. It is AWESOME.

Oh man. [livejournal.com profile] zimshan made a vid chronicling the Obama movement, and it's--yeah. Whatever, it totally made me cry, and I can't believe that he's going to be our president tomorrow and that we really did this. Wow.

All These Things That I've Done by [livejournal.com profile] zimshan. Watch it.

[livejournal.com profile] helluvalot and [livejournal.com profile] dreadfulrauwr linked me to Scrivener, and I know that a lot of people on my flist are doing [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout, so I thought I'd pimp it out. Because dudes, IT IS MY NEW FAVORITE THING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. It's software designed for writers working on novels or other big projects, and it's basically designed to help you keep all your research, drafts and ideas together in one place.

You guys, it is SO COOL. You can import photos and webpages, organize things according to whether they're just notes or part of a draft or whatever, you can search for a character and view all the documents with that character on one screen--um, I'm not describing it very well because I've only just started using it, and also because I am actually so excited about a freaking piece of software that I am flaily and inarticulate. Like, if I'm describing an idea in chat with someone, I can c&p that into a file in Scrivener and label it "concept" and know exactly where it is and and--! Best writing tool evaaarrrrr. ♥___♥

Also, [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett posted a new Supernatural vid the other day, Broken. It's actually two vids in one (or--one vid in two, I guess), and they're both awesome, and they're kind of tempting me to watch SPN season 4, because apparently Castiel exists and also looks at Dean like that.

And I've become kind of obsessed with the song she used, because it's exactly the kind of song I love to write to. I've been listening to it close to nonstop since watching the vid two days ago, ugh, it's so awesome: Unkle- Broken

That Shall Achieve The Sword, Merlin 2008, gen.

This is probably the best fic I've read in Merlin fandom so far, and considering how well it uses the canon and integrates the larger mythos, it might be one of the best pieces of fanfiction I've ever read, period. The dialogue and the characterizations are incredibly spot-on, especially Arthur, and the story grabs you and doesn't let go. I really don't know what else to say about it because I'm still stuck in flail mode, but geez, read it.

So, hey, you should watch Deep Kick by [livejournal.com profile] absolutedestiny. It's not exactly a fannish vid; I've never seen or heard of the source material. The vidder describes this as being how he remembers his teen years, and even though I didn't go through anything remotely like what this vid is about, I think the feelings in this vid are pretty universal to anyone who's ever been young.

I'm fascinated by this vid not just because it's a great vid, but because I'm a sucker for anything that melds the fannish and the personal (see, um, a really big chunk of the fic I've written this year), and this is a genre of vid that I don't think I've seen before, really. Well, Women's Work in SPN was similar in that it was sort of beyond fannish, but that was more of a statement about the world and the show than a statement about the artists who created the vid, I felt. Watching Deep Kick started to give me my own ideas about more personal projects, hm.

Completely unrelated, hey, love meme. Why not.

It's going to take me forever to get through all the vids that premiered at VividCon this year, seeing as I'm off to LA the day after tomorrow (WHAT) and also that I've never been more distracted by bandslash, but:

Anyone who's ever watched Supernatural ought to watch this vid. Seriously. Women's Work by [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett and [livejournal.com profile] sisabet

Also, I know there is probably totally gossip about the fandom reaction to this at the con, and I'm kinda dying to know what it is. >_>

So re: going to see My Chem, I decided to say fuck it, because who knows when I'll be in a financial spot of not having to pay rent again? Seize the day, etc. Seize the Frank Iero on September 3rd in Colorado. \o/

I spent a lot of time yesterday listening to Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, and you know, I realize that none of it is on purpose or anything, but I really like it when MCR and FOB have little musical similarities going on. Like, the bit about mausoleum doors in Cemetery Drive and the bit about mausoleums in Sugar, and the parts in Jetset Life where Gerard sings 'sugar'. I, um, I like imagining that during Summer of Like, whenever the respective bands played these songs it was like a smiley injoke between the bands. I've imagined this a lot lately? Shut up, I'm a dork who really likes it when bands like each other.

I spent most of last night recasting a QaF AU with [livejournal.com profile] starstillwonder where Gerard was Brian and Brendon was Justin. My life, you guys, I don't even know anymore.

I shouldn't write recs when the coffee hasn't quite kicked in yet, but hey, some fic that I've read recently and really loved:

Everyday Mysteries In The Summertime by [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism, Pete/Mikey. This is a prep school AU based off the I'm Not Okay video, but a different take on the concept than I've seen before. Wax draws every single character and setting so vividly, so that you're not just rooting for Pete/Mikey, you're paying attention to Frank and Ma Way and Gabe and of course, Gerard. Wax's fucked-up, fumbling, drunk, wonderful Gerard is such a thing of beauty, and she nails the Gerard-Mikey relationship. I was thinking about this fic for days after I finished it.

Tired Boys and Wired Eyes by [livejournal.com profile] imperfectcircle, Bill/Travis. So I basically want to marry this Travis voice. Perfect and spot-on, and the relationship between Bill and Travis is bizarre, funny, and really sweet, just as it should be. It also utilizes the rest of TAI and GCH + Gabe fantastically, and I laughed and kicked my feet with glee throughout the whole thing. My OTP done so so right, yay!

Unequivocal by [livejournal.com profile] stereomer, Frank/Gerard. I am totally the last person in fandom to read this (I hope), but in case I'm not, god, what are you waiting for? This is the epic story of My Chemical Romance. [livejournal.com profile] steromer follows them from the very beginning up to (practically) the present, and she tells it so well. I'm still boggling over how good this is, over how much care she put into the story, over how it hits every single emotional note it needs to. Funny and sad and happy and sometimes fucked-up, this is practically my MCR canon now.

This story's going somewhere, by [livejournal.com profile] jamjar. Pete PoV, starts from the beginning of the band.

[livejournal.com profile] jamjar has finally finished the fic that she's been working on almost since we both got into bandom (or, it might not be quite since then, but it feels like it!), and it's my fault that she started it in the first place and I saw every bit of it along the way and I feel sort of like the story's aunt or something now, so I won't even pretend that this is an at all objective rec.

In this story Pete is 16 and Patrick is 23 when they meet and form a band. Though this is AU, I don't think I've ever read a story that got Pete Wentz so perfect. This is absolutely my Pete, young and smart and over-confident and emotionally vulnerable and kind of a jerk. She writes him as a teenager so well that it's kind of hard to read sometimes. I am so, so impressed with what she's done here, the steps she's taken to build this universe and paint the picture of this band starting--she never takes any shortcuts and she never leaves anything out, and Joe and Andy and Patrick are as fleshed out and perfect as Pete is.

It's 42,000 words and I don't really know what else to say about it because I don't want to spoil a single thing. I just have to state again how much she nailed the character that I see in my head when I think of Pete, and I haven't read too many stories where that's really the case. Please, read, sink your teeth into it, tell [livejournal.com profile] jamjar how awesome she is, because fandom doesn't get this kind of fic every day. I'm just going to link to it again, okay? Okay.

So I've gotten two different people to write me Frank/Bob in like three days. I approve of this pattern and hope it continues. Please Try Not To Die In A Fire by [livejournal.com profile] pre_emptive. If you don't enjoy this fic, you have a problem with your heart being missing. You might want to look into that; it sounds like a serious condition.

[livejournal.com profile] bandfandom_ref! Canon help which I plan on taking ruthless advantage of 24/7. \o/

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] theotherej!

I have another 10,000 words of fic; apparently I just don't *get* small ideas in this fandom. MCR continues to be the gayest band ever that's 3/5 engaged or married. I've been boggling over how fucking gay this song is since [livejournal.com profile] gigantic showed me the video yesterday. How are you doing? Tell me about awesome things. ♥

edit: Oh, and. Patrick Stump sets my panties on fire in FOB's latest music video, but that almost goes without saying. It's a little odd how much I find myself enjoying every single video FOB comes out with; I've never been one for music videos, always found them boring in the past. And while I like the videos of many other bands that I'm fannish about, they don't make me smile to the extension that almost *every* FOB video does, even the early ones. God, I am like, seconds away from talking about how much I respect Pete Wentz's artistic vision. This fandom leaves me with no dignity.
