So I saw OoTP!
I really liked it. I mean, dude, what can I say? It hit my kinks. I'm a weirdo in that OotP Harry has always been my favorite--I love him best when he's an angsty emo asshole, and I love the 'am I going mad? am I going EVIL? AM I AT ALL INTERESTED IN GIRLS?' angle.
Plus, fuck, dude. Harry had 'I came back wrong' angst. (Okay, so he didn't come back wrong, but he said 'there's something wrong inside me!' HE SAID IT! THAT MEANS HE CAN JOIN THE BUFFY AND RED HOOD CLUB DAMMIT.) Like I said, it hit my kinks.
And the Harry/Neville! And the Harry/Luna OMFG. Those were totally the big 'ships of this movie and anyone who says otherwise is lying. I was disappointed at the lack of Remus/Sirius, but Gary Oldman kicked fucking ass, so.
To be honest, though, I was really mostly just paying attention to Harry throughout the entire thing. Daniel Radcliffe knocked it out of the park and I might have for maybe one second wanted Snape/Harry okay and all of those close-ups on his sexy neck, nnngggh. (I should qualify that only movie!Dan Radcliffe gets me hot and bothered. Facial hair Dan Radcliffe with skanky leather vest = do not want.) Ron and Hermione didn't feel as important in this movie, despite the fact that the message was supposedly 'friends are important' (I thought the message was 'Harry, everyone you've ever loved will die or leave you and you should just learn how to cope best by yourself and work on a good Avada Kedavra for Voldemort,' but okay.), but honestly, I barely missed them. Part of this is because Emma Watson has never really not phoned it in and this movie is no exception, and also because less Ron means less opportunities for the screenwriters to rub it in how much they dislike him. (Not that they didn't use what opportunities they did grab, sigh.)
I did think the ending was completely botched. As far as I'm concerned, it ended on Harry's blank, ready-to-crack-and-start-stabbing-people face after Dumbledore told him he cared too much--they tried to go for the optimistic, sunshine-y summer vacation ending that the other movies have had, and just no. Hell no! This one was WAY too dark for this bullshit, and the attempt at bittersweetness and the 'but we've got something to fight for! AND BY THE WAY MY ONLY FAMILY LEFT IS DEAD AND IT'S MY FAULT' fell flat on its face. That sunshine felt like a CHEAP DIRTY LIE.
Oh, and I was, sadly, disappointed with Helena Bonham Carter. I fucking loved the first glimpse of Bellatrix we got with her breaking out of Azkaban, but after that the insanity was just so.... I don't know, it felt predictable. And boring and most of all, unsexy. :( So sad. I thought it was a pretty unoriginal way to play the role, sigh.
Hm, this is making me sound like I had lots of negative opinions and I really didn't! I mean, it had the flaws that most of the movies have had, what with Emma Watson and including plot points it shouldn't (WHY GRAWP WHY?) and the horrible score (I HATE THE HARRY POTTER MUSIC, I HATE IT SO MUCH I'M SORRY), but I really think they pulled it off. Umbridge was just as horrid and creepy as she needed to be. There wasn't enough McGonagall, but there was hardly any Draco \o/ and just as much Snape as there needed to be \o/ and I loved what we saw of Tonks \o/ and Ginny and Luna were both aawwweesome.
I think I need to read HBP before the 7th book comes out, because watching the movie made me realize just how much I don't remember from the 5th and 6th books. Also, dammit, now I'm going to be really hoping for Harry and Luna to hook up (seriously, this movie sold me on that ship hook line and sinker) and I know they won't, alas!

I wouldn't mind Harry/Luna instead of Harry/Ginny, but if it's going to be boring and go Harry/Ginny Ron/Hermione at the end (UNLESS THEY ALL DIE, I'D BE OKAY THERE) I'm hoping for some Neville/Luna.

Seriously? OK, now I REALLY can't wait to see it. I've loved Harry/Luna since the fifth book came out.

Also, yes on Harry/Luna. It's long been my preferred ship of the actually plausibly cannon ones. And when Snape was... manhandling him during the occulemency lessons, I had a brief Harry/Snape moment too (much to my unending horror.) But I spent most of the movie alternately snickering gleefully and quivering with grief over the Harry/Sirius that was just dripping from every frame. Actually, I'm still quivering. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight.
