Right now it's 'just' about chan fanart, a lot of which I'm really disturbed by, but think about anyone who reads some fic or sees some fanart that they're squicked by hitting that button. Think about any of the number of people who find RPS to be way worse than chan using this--hell, think about Ryland or Vicky T using it! Not to mention how this could affect music sharing or file sharing, which is what I'm more worried about than any Kon/Clark porn that I wrote way back when.

I'm not moving yet because I'm cranky and lazy, and also because I'm skeptical of any of the alternatives being offered: moving to a journal site that has the same TOS as LJ is useless, and I don't think JF is at all the answer to a fan-created service--there's the under 18 policy for one, the lack of robust servers, plus oh hai. I've seen the idea floating around of donating the amount you've been paying for an LJ account to a service started up by fans--about 30 dollars a year for me, ish? maybe? I'll have to find out the exact amount--and I'll be up for that when I have 30 dollars. Hi, overdraft, how's it going?

Bandom seems to be entirely on LJ at the moment, so this is where I'm staying for now, but I'm keeping my website updated and my ear to the ground.

Baseball fandom is even more C&D-happy than most other rps fandoms, isn't it? :/

Moreso than any other RPF fandom, yeah. But we're also more flock happy, so it'd be harder for people to find as much of the fic if these are coming from specific complaints from outside sources. we have less underage stuff, but more "Andy Pettitte accusing you of libel."

ALTHOUGH THAT WAS TOTALLY FOR HETFIC.

Oh Andy Pettttitttttte, why don't I have an icon of you anymore :(

I think LJ must be getting outside pressure about this from somewhere, because there are so many things NOT chan that are TOS'able and easier to find. All those file sharing communities! You'd think that would be the first thing they'd go after. But it really looks like they don't have any interest in it.

And that content flag thing is going to abused quite badly. :/

Yeah, I agree, but it's hard for me to tell how slap-happy they're going to be with the reports of abuse, you know? I mean, whatever, I know I'm doing something illegal every time I upload an .mp3, so I can't really complain, but it's frustrating right now to just not *know* how serious they're going to be about enforcing. Is it just going to be a couple HP chan writers or artists banned every once in a while to keep up appearances? And are we okay with staying with LJ if it's "just" that? Ehhhh.

Yeah, I'm really not, and I'm so, so pissed at myself for believing that LJ really was just well meaning but incompetent. But I have the same reservations about other journaling systems. I don't like feeling like I'm being chased out of somewhere, especially if we're just going to face the same thing all over again in a couple years... rar. I am deeply displeased.

I'm clinging to the hope that we're a small fandom, but the more stuff like this comes up the more scared I get :/

Honestly, I think it will be a while before it spreads to any fandom outside HP, and if I had to really guess what fandom would be next, my guess would not be bandom. But still, I don't think I'm okay with it if it stays just HP.

And in the art I've seen Harry didn't even look like a child or young teenager. I mean, the Snarry art(I haven't seen the George/Fred, but the artist said it wasn't chan) that got the artist suspended was manga-influenced, but he had pubic hair and muscles for example and was fairly grown. It wasn't labeled as chan either. Sure, he could have been 16/17 as easily as 18/19, but I don't think the depiction was the matter as much as that it was really graphic and Harry Potter. I certainly wouldn't have picked it as an example for disturbing chan (unlike for example the Snape/Lupin/Harry non-con double penetration that I've seen once that was set during PoA and Harry looked 13 in the art too).

This is all really disturbing.

Even if it only sticks with HP fandom, I still would have major problems with it.

Is there even an archive of bandom fic?????

I get squicked like hell by a lot of the chan art out there as well, dude, and there IS a federal law, but I'm sort of inching toward maybe another service as well, at least for fannish stuff.

I'm sort of ridiculously fond of insanejournal, but only because it's called INSANEjournal. That's just awesome.

Kinda relevant, and kinda disturbing.

Hey, maybe all of fandom can just donate 30 bucks and we can buy an island!.

it's not about chan fanart, actually. it's about fanart that depicts a person who the artist claims is 18-20, and could be perceived as sixteen at the *youngest.* Which LJ made a point of telling us wasn't a problem--"no, no, it's those nasty stories about five year olds, it's the stuff the pedophiles are going for," etc., etc. So, you know, there's yet ANOTHER layer of lies and misinformation, which pisses me off way way more than if they'd just FORBID shit outright. (and apply to it to porn about *women*, not just about men.)
