"You're a strong girl. Personally, I think you're going to pull through with a minimum of post-traumatic stress."

This vid focuses on a storyline that, although it never explicitly reference sexual assault, is a thinly-veiled metaphor for rape. Trigger warning for themes of assault, sexual assault, mind control, and super fucked-up power dynamics in general. Spoilery through the end of season two.

Download from Mediafire (36mb, DIVX). You can also stream it at AO3.

Notes: I had a hard time figuring out how to incorporate the season two finale into this vid; when I first started working on it, I was assuming that we would get way more onscreen psychological fallout from Peter possessing Lydia than we actually did. (And this had better get addressed in season three, because seriously, you do not get to turn Lydia's storyline into one that's really clearly about rape and then just have the character bounce back like nothing happened, come on Jeff Davis.) In the end, what I tried to do with the clips of Lydia saving Jackson was show that even though she gets to save the day, even if she has these positive things in her life again, that doesn't mean that she's free from what happened. Hopefully that comes across in the vid, and doesn't seem like I just decided to drop some random Jackson/Lydia shipping in there for the heck of it. It's probably super pretentious to say that I was trying to vid the concept of PTSD, but, well, that is what was on my mind while I made this.

okay I finally watched this (so much vid backlog from VVC, so much) and it is AMAZING. All the Lydia feels. The clips with Jackson from the finale worked perfectly, I think; I didn't see your explanation until just now but that's pretty much exactly what I got. I love the way it all sort of exists in a haze, where the progression of images is more controlled by emotion than by linear sequence and keeps circling around--it feels like being inside her head.

So I'm the worst at responding to feedback in anything approaching a timely fashion, but thank you so much for this comment--'it feels like being inside her head' was pretty much exactly what I was going for with this. The progression of images being nonlinear was only about half on-purpose, but I'm so glad it worked. I'm super glad that you got it and that you liked it, since this is the first vid I've made in like a bazillion years and I had no idea what I was making but was super invested in whatever it was going to be--I remember saying after posting it that I felt like I'd just given birth to an exceptionally rape-y baby, and well. Yes.

(Also--I remember you mentioning a while back that you were trying to think of Allison songs to vid, and I'm still at the point of fannishness where I have lists of songs that work in my head for every single character, and I have a song for an incredibly depressing screwed-by-the-patriarchy Lydia&Allison vid and a song for a stupidly angsty Scott/Allison vid, but for empowerment I don't think you have to look farther than Smashing Pumpkins' "Bullet with Butterfly Wings," because Allison's world is definitely a vampire, and despite all her rage she's just a rat in a cage.)
