honestly, it doesn't make much of a difference, since i'm having enough trouble writing the first part of the story, and this would be say, the third or fouth -- aka, it's only going to ever exist in my head. and working from a historical framework where the armed forces weren't integrated, and where the particular battalion i'm writing about had next to no interaction with african american regiments, it's mostly just pure annoyance that whenever i'm writing and i'm like, "shit, i need to kill a white male character i don't care about," i have literally bands' worth of options (hello, the entirety of the cab!), but when i'm sketching out a major story arc featuring characters of color, i have to be like, "does putting ?uestlove in an army uniform hurt my soul too much?"
whatever! you don't care! but i am glad you are talking about this! zee and i bitch to each other all the fucking time about this shit. really, i think it's this fucked up nexus of fandom as a general phenomenon and its race issues, and the "scene" most of these bands come from and how intricate a subject race is there. (kind of like bandom and gender, but that's an entirely SEPARATE diatribe.)
so. hi!
